Why roof snow load matters
Snow is heavier than it looks, and it does not melt off an unheated cottage the way it does a lived-in house. On the Bruce Peninsula, lake-effect storms can stack up wet, dense snow fast — and that weight bears down on your roof all winter. It can also form ice dams at the eaves that push meltwater back up under the shingles and into the cottage. Clearing the load before it builds is far cheaper than repairing a sagging roof or a water-stained ceiling.
Decks, porches, and around the cottage
The roof is not the only place snow does damage. Covered porches, decks, and sunroom roofs are often built lighter than the main roof, so they take the strain sooner. Drifts against doors and windows can trap moisture and block your way in. We clear the snow off these lower structures and open up the paths around your cottage, so the whole building — not just the main roof — comes through winter without strain.

Roof work in winter is dangerous, and it is not a job to hand to just anyone. When a big storm rolls through, we offer emergency response, usually within 24 to 48 hours, to get heavy snow off the roof before it turns into real damage.
What we do not do: driveways
To be clear about one thing: we do not plow driveways. Our snow work is about protecting the cottage itself — the roof, the decks and porches, and the paths right around the building. For driveway plowing, a local plow contractor is your best bet. We would rather focus on the structure, where a missed snow load costs the most.
